1. Who we are

MatchPlayKing is a golf scoring and social platform operated by MATCHPLAYKNG Limited ("we", "us" or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect your personal data when you use our website or mobile web app. This page is maintained by MatchPlayKing and describes our current practices.

2. What we collect

We collect information you provide directly, such as your name, email address, profile photo, handicap, golf scores and any posts or comments you make. We also collect technical data automatically, including your device type, browser, IP address, app usage and crash reports, to help us keep the Service secure and improve it.

3. How we use your data

We use your data to provide and improve the Service, authenticate you, calculate stats and handicaps, show your activity to friends you connect with, send service notifications, process payments, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Sharing your data

We share data only with trusted service providers who help us run the app, such as our hosting and database provider, payment processor (Stripe), and email delivery service. These providers are contractually bound to use your data only for the services they provide to us. We may also share data if required by law or to protect our rights.

5. Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and maintain the app's security. If we add analytics or marketing cookies in the future, we will ask for your consent before placing them and provide a way to manage your preferences.

6. Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, unless we are required to keep it for legal, tax or security reasons. Golf scores and posts that are part of a match may remain visible to other players in anonymised form after deletion.

For fraud prevention we retain a one-way cryptographic hash (SHA-256) of the email address of accounts that received a promotional benefit (for example a founding-member slot or complimentary access). This hash cannot be reversed to recover your email and is used solely to prevent the same benefit being claimed twice by re-registering. It is not used for marketing or profiling. We rely on our legitimate interest in preventing abuse of promotional offers as the lawful basis (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal data, or to object to certain uses. To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@matchplayking.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular backups. No online service can guarantee complete security, so we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and keep your device secure.

9. Children's privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us and we will delete it.
